Forgiveness….is an act! — May 21, 2015

Forgiveness….is an act!

Forgive-Me-Big

The Merriam – Webster dictionary defines Forgive as follows:

: to stop feeling anger toward (someone who has done something wrong) : to stop blaming (someone)

: to stop feeling anger about (something) : to forgive someone for (something wrong)

: to stop requiring payment of (money that is owed)

As you see all these definitions start with “to stop.”

When we “say” we forgive someone it should not only be a proclamation but an action as well!

Jesus completed the act of dying on the cross so that our sins past, present and future would be forgiven. It is by his blood that we are redeemed! He knew that we would need a Savior to save us from the bondage of sin, and it is through his grace and mercy that we are extended the same ability to forgive others who have harmed or hurt us in any way. Now your probably thinking……well of course it’s easy for God to forgive, He’s God! But….if we claim to KNOW Christ and if we believe He died for our sins, how then do we not believe that others are worthy of the same grace, mercy, and love that He bestowed upon us!? Jesus did not bear the sins on the cross for a selected few, He beared the sins of the WORLD (anyone who inhabited the earth!).

1 John 2:2 NLT

He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

So then being that we are made in the image and likeness of Christ and for those of us who have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, we must not only “proclaim” that we have forgiven but we must also act upon it! This kind of act is possible with the love and strength of Christ, we cannot do it alone. For His word says in

Philippians 4:13 NLT

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

We cannot claim to be of Christ and to know Him if we do not follow in His steps. There is a reason that God sent him to be in human form. There is a reason He allowed His only son to go through the same trials and emotions that we would encounter! He gave us the outline, the blueprint on how we should live out our Christian walk with Him.

The only way we can accomplish this kind of righteousness, compassion and love is by having a personal relationship with God! There is no way we can claim to know Him without seeking His face and word daily! We can by no means inherit the traits and graces of God without getting to know Him.

1 John 4:6-12 NLT

But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception. Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

We ought to be a living walking representation of Christ! We ought to show a world filled with chaos and sin that there is hope and there is life in Christ! That the love of Christ is enough to cover the sins of an entire world! That if this same loving Spirit be within us, we should graciously give it as He has so done for us! We don’t know everyone’s story or the personal demons they deal with. Our job is to not judge or condemn for we have our own sins to bear that we must submit to Christ.

Luke 6:42 NLT

How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

We all sin and fall short of the glory of God! We all will fail time and time again, but we ALL are deserving of God’s love and forgiveness. Let us not deny someone of this if we have experienced it for ourselves! Share what God has given you even if it means we have to do it over and over again! Jesus died for a world that did not even know who He was and were too blind to see what His mission was. Let’s pave the way to continue the mission He started and spread His love and forgiveness to all who are receptive to it. Who are we to hold the key to someone else’s hope and healing!? Did Christ not see fit to rescue us from the many sins that would bind us!? “We make terrible Gods!” ~Pastor Jerry Gillis~

So then, the next time we say we forgive someone or the next time we say we “can’t” forgive someone let us reevaluate our life and walk in Christ. Do we really know God? Are we seeking His face and word daily or are we seeking our own mission and agendas? Choose to act in forgiveness, choose to show God’s loving grace even when we don’t understand. God knows and sees the entire picture, He knows what needed and what’s not. Let us trust that our actions in Christ most certainly do speak louder than words! Everything with wisdom and love!

What I learned from the trees!? — May 15, 2015

What I learned from the trees!?

20150514_133153

Yesterday I decided to go to a garden park to have some time of solitude. As I walked around I started praying to God I passed a huge building (made out of stone), and decided to sit on the big stoned siding that went up towards the stairs. I was in the midst of a beautiful view with nature surrounding me. I took out my pen and notebook, just in case there was something noteworthy of jotting down (since I always forget); closed my eyes and said Lord speak to me.

Birds were chirping and singing and I felt the warmth of the sun on my face. I started writing down random words that came to mind….Peace, creation, unity, freedom, contentment, strength and mystery. I stood in silence some more to see if my thoughts would sum up. I heard the tree leaves blowing in the wind as I still had my eyes closed and thought hmm…..we need trees for oxygen! Random right!? Not likely, God put in my heart to read Psalm 48 and as I was reading verses 13-14 stuck out to me. Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations. For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die. So I just meditated on those verses for a bit and thought….Lord what am I supposed to get from all this? It wasn’t clicking, then I went back to my original thought of trees being necessary for oxygen.

God started to show me how all the trees around me though different were all apart of a bigger picture. There were tall trees, shorter shrubs, some that were skinny and not as full and some that were more full like pine trees. There were different colored ones that had pink flowers, white flowers and some that had deep burgundy colored leaves while others had some yellow or orange. All in all they were all necessary no matter what they looked like they all contributed to the overall purpose and beauty of things.

God showed me how they knew their purpose, whether storms of rain, hail or snow; they remained rooted. They knew what seasons to bloom and how to produce their own food. Now while I was at the garden, I saw a man that was tending to it and taking care of it. This was his job, he was the care master for the garden (don’t know if that’s the right term but you get what I mean) 😁 He pulls out dead weeds, removes any trash or any signs of debris to show that it’s a new season!

In the same manner we as the body of Christ are all necessary to the bigger picture! We all contribute with our talents and skills that God has given us. We should all know what our purpose in Christ is so that when trials come our way, we know who we are rooted in and will not waver in fear or shame. Our relationship with Christ is important so that we maintain our strength and get the food necessary for our spirit. The bible says in Matthew 4:4 NLT But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” We must all be confident in knowing that God created all for a purpose and time.

Which brings me back to Psalm 48 13-14, Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations. For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die. God is the same God now that He was then. This was about the city of Jerusalem and how after a war had taken place, God wanted His people to know what He had done in keeping their safety! God continues to keep us with His protection and provision because He loves us. We must always give Him the glory and pass on our faith to our children (future generations). He is our God forever and ever and will not change, even until the day of our death!

So why am I saying all of this? Well simply because His word states to share with future generations. We are to share the goodness and love of Christ. Those who believe in Him must testify to His grandeur and His mercy! Our cities could be in far more crazy harsh conditions…..but God! There is freedom and peace in the unity of the body of Christ to know that He is on our side. May we be content with just that and though we may not understand all of His mysteries, He still remains the same. His love and mercy surpasses all understanding. Not every horrible or tragic thing is from God, we all have a choice. May we choose to show others the goodness and love of Christ. May we choose to show the next generations to come what He has done for us.

All this from sitting in a garden and observing trees! 😊 God can speak to us through any person, thing or situation as long as were open to hearing His voice and sitting in His loving presence.

Self love

self love

In today’s society we are forced and pushed into believing that we are not enough just the way we are. Television, media, magazines, etc….all tell us that we need to change and adapt to the newest and latest trends or even learn how to personify certain traits. We get caught up in getting the latest phone and the flashy shoes or purses ( though I am not saying buying something for yourself every so often is bad). Everyone is looking for the “next big thing”, that we as individuals are trying to become a mirage or facade of the things (whether materialistic or characteristically) that this world would like to see us as. What’s wrong with being the person that God Himself created you to be!? I mean sure there may be things about ourselves that we don’t necessarily like for instance, our temper or our inability to be more loving. It’s ok, we are all a working progress! This is why it is important for us as believers to submit our flesh and ourselves to God daily in prayer. To empty ourselves fully so that He can dwell within us as we portray His light and love. Sure there will be moments of relapse and moments of craziness but it’s ok, no need to be hard on ourselves! We are human and frail, our flesh is set up to fail us from time to time. Which is why trying to please a world that’s full of judgment and hate will never satisfy you! We all have a void within us that needs filling and no material thing or temporary fix will fill it for us. I use to think that I needed to portray certain characteristics from certain individuals in my life in order to be somone of substance. I use to wish that I could change my nose or my forehead because people would always comment negatively on them. I would cry in my room when I was younger and wish God had made me differently. I use to wish that I had the ability to show love in a certain way or to be extroverted because I wasn’t. Well…..needless to say God was offended by my views because He spoke to me one day and told me that my image was created in Him and to stop trying to be somone that I wasn’t! That really hit me, I thought wow….God cares for me and loves me enough to tell me that I’m enough! Flaws and all! His words changed my life, of course I still struggle with my image from time to time but then I lift up my insecurities and fears to Him in prayer. Knowing that I am unique and there’s no one else who can quite do what I do the way that I do. I’m confident that God is within me and teaching me daily on how to be more like Him, and that through Him my personal traits that He imprinted me with are worth me loving myself! This world can’t give me what I need, it can’t save me from myself when I try to do things in my own strength, it can tell me how beautiful I really am if all its concentrated on is what it can add or take away from me when God has already created in His eyes perfection! Love yourself the way God has made you! Nuture the traits and features that make you beautifully you! God does not create junk and He surely doesn’t create any mistakes! Everyone of us have a beauty that no one else has! Everyone of us have something to contribute! Take the time to love yourself just the way you are because God loved us way before we even knew ourselves. Your an original, a one of a kind masterpiece that was made by the one and only true Master of the arts! Give yourself a break and stop being so hard on yourself, make time for solitude. Learn to love who you are without all the voices that tell you that your not enough and focus on the only voice that matters within you which is Christ. You can’t truly love others until you learn how to love yourself through the eyes of your creator.

Living out LOVE! — May 7, 2015

Living out LOVE!

Quotation-Gary-Chapman-love-choice-Meetville-Quotes-267985

So we all have problems and issues that we must face or encounter either on a daily basis or often. Being a believer or non believer does not determine whether or not we are exempt from life’s pressures or mishaps. What we forget is that we sometimes allow our issues or mistakes to hinder the rest of our day, and we also justify our reactions and responses up to what “we are going through”. Truth is we have a choice, we always have a choice! Whether we want to believe it or not, whether we are blind to the fact or not. Christ had a choice, He chose to love us no matter what. We have the choice to either allow our circumstances to hinder us or push us all the more.I was the type of person (which trust me I’m still working on) who reacts right away to the issues around me. I would try to solve the issue or put my two sense in or allowed whatever someone said that hurt me to effect my response. Now I’m quite sure that I’m not the only one who reacts this way. In this current process that God is taking me through, I’ve realized that my reactions never helped me or anyone I encounter. Think about it……someone upsets us or says hurtful things toward us and we spiral out of control. We cuss them out, get all rowdy and then what!? We either fight it out or allow it to fester within us and whoever comes along in our path throughout the day gets to hear a piece of our mind right!? I mean what does this really do? What is the end result of all of this? This is why we have people killing each other in this world!? Babies and teens dying never being able to experience a life full of love, peace and joy. It all starts with us! You don’t know if someone you encounter is on the brink of suicide and your smile or simple gesture of love could help them? It could be a small conversation that acknowledges that they exist and matter which in turn could help them to hold onto another day and reassess if taking their life is really worth it! My point is CHOOSE to live out a life of love! Choose to not allow your circumstances whatever they are, to become the issue of someone else. Everyone has to deal with something in their life, everyone worries about something, everyone has their own baggage. Whatever we personally go through is just that, OUR problem! Nobody needs to handle anyone else’s baggage on top of theirs. Now, what we can do is show our love and concern for what they are dealing with. We can show comfort and encouragement, bring laughter and joy in time of sorrow. When we can fully understand that even though we are dealing with something it doesn’t mean that we can’t help someone else through theirs. Choose to give your trials to God so that we can help love someone on purpose. I’m sure Jesus had so much on His mind and heart being in human form, He got to experience life as we know it. God loved us so much that He CHOOSE to give up His only son for us! Not only that but He allowed His son to experience and go through life in the flesh. Jesus went through the same emotions we feel, He felt pain, heartache, and sorrow. But, He loved us enough to put aside His wants and needs in order that we may have life! Whether you are a believer or non believer, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the language and embodiment of what love truly is. Christ gave us the example, He showed us the way. People tend to gravitate towards others who they look up to, who they want to become, who they can relate to. There is a constant longing and force to want to have a connection with another human being. Instead of allowing our differences and disagreements to tear one another down, how about we choose to understand? How about we choose to listen? How about we choose to just love? You might be thinking…..but yeah some people are just hard to love. Some people need more help than we can give, all reasonable questions. Our gesture of love whether small or large will always help someone along the way. We may not understand the entire picture or scheme of things, but do it anyways! We love because Christ first loved us! If we all were to live by this principle imagine what this world would be like!? Some of you as you read my blog might be thinking…..this woman is annoying with all her love talk. To be honest that’s ok! Love is the one thing that overlooks people’s wrongs and faults and still says.,….I love you anyways. To truly have the love and heart of Christ one must give up their ways of being to allow Jesus to dwell and reside within you. This means to put aside your wants and desires so that we may focus on the bigger picture at hand. Love is contagious, and when we live out this kind of love…others will be drawn to it. For me regardless of what others may think I am CHOOSING to live out love! I pray that whoever reads this will join me and see that its not always about us, we may not like the world we live in but we are apart of it. So instead of being apart of the problem lets try and see what its like to be part of the solution!

The reason why I decided to start this blog! — May 6, 2015

The reason why I decided to start this blog!

I was reading a book called Prayer by Richard J. Foster. As I’m reading this book I came across the words “love on fire”. I had to put the book down for a minute and mediate on those words….love on fire. I started thinking why do these words tug at my heart so deeply? Then I realized that I had been asking God in my  prayer time to instill in me a love that was like His! A love that saw through the eyes of Christ and a heart that loved unconditionally, even to those who were “unlovable”. I started thinking and meditating…..love on fire…..love on fire? Over and over and I asked God what will You have me do with this!? Now, all the while I had started writing posts on Facebook about God’s love and goodness, etc…. So it clicked! Why not start a blog!? So I prayed about it and here I am!

I am passionate about showing the love of Christ to all who will allow. My purpose for this blog is to simply spread the good news of Jesus and His love for us! The name “Love on fire” for me is something that really burned (in a good way) in my heart! God’s love is the basis of the Christian faith, John 3:16. God choose us! We did not choose Him! He choose to give His only son so that we may have life! Now that’s LOVE! There’s something about the love of my God that is contagious! A love that is on fire for all who come into its path. A love that heals, forgives, is patient, non biased, non discriminatory. Love that chooses to look beyond our faults and say….I love you anyways, because God first loved me. This kind of love consumes you and helps you to see people and life in general through the eyes of our God. I want to share with you all this love that God has so graciously given me and us if we so CHOOSE to accept Him into our hearts.

What’s crazy to me is that I have been saved since the age of 12. And it’s not till now at the age of 31 that I fully and truly understand what it means to have the love of Christ and to share it! We don’t have to ram scriptures down peoples throat or constantly pick at or judge people who don’t believe or live the same way we do! When we judge and condemn no one hears! But if we do all things in love, the world stops and listens! Love is universal! I say love is the only language that we can all understand regarless of culture or race. This kind of love consumes all who see and feel it! Simply by walking in the love of Christ and by radiating His presence will be enough to draw someone in. I pray that all who read these blogs will find and experience the love of Christ! That may you not only discover it for yourselves but that you spread it like a wildfire! We live in a world that needs love, share the love of Christ with me to all who are receptive!

Love on fire!! Pass it on!!
